CHICAGO, IL. (Crime Library) — Police say they have solved the 10-month mystery of Dr. David Cornbleet's murder. Using information received from a tip sent via MySpace.com, authorities were able to obtain an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Hans Peterson. Last week, Peterson turned himself in to French authorities and allegedly confessed to the murder. Unfortunately, the case does not end there, and the battle for justice continues. Peterson was recently granted French citizenship, which complicates the extradition process. The French oppose capital punishment and refuse to extradite criminals to countries where a conviction could result in the death penalty.

On October 24, 2006, Dr. David Cornbleet was found dead on the floor of his office at 30 N. Michigan Ave. An unknown assailant stabbed him multiple times, causing his death. According to surveillance videos, the suspect was a Caucasian male, approximately 6 feet tall. He was wearing a red baseball cap with an unidentifiable symbol on the front, a gray- or cream-colored hooded jacket and either blue or black pants. He also had a dark-colored messenger bag slung over his back.

"He was sophisticated enough to know what he was doing," Dr. Cornbleet's son, Jon Cornbleet, told Crime Library last fall. "I have been in that building over a thousand times, and I didn't even know where the cameras were. [The killer] definitely did his homework. He knew when the other offices would be empty. He went there with the intention of killing my father."
In hopes of catching his father's killer, Jonathan and his sister's fiance, Dan Drucker, created a profile on the popular social networking web site MySpace in hopes that someone might recognize something about the figure in the grainy surveillance footage. Their hunch proved to be correct, and in April, they received an unspecified tip through the web site that led them to additional security camera footage of the suspect.
