"The mood just dropped," search volunteer Andrea Humphrey told CBNNews.com.  "It was very sad and somber.  People were crying."

Not long after the body was positively identified as that of Jessie Davis, the doorstep of her home and a sign near where her body was recovered were transformed into memorials for the young mother and her unborn child.  Mourners have left behind flowers, ribbons, and teddy bears at both locations.

Speaking on behalf of the family, attorney Rick Pitinii has asked that the family be allowed adequate time to grieve Jessie's death before being inundated with questions about the case.

"I've never had to do deal with something like this before, and I hope I never do again," he said.  "Please do not call them tonight.  Please do not call them tomorrow.  It's tough."

Jessie's family remained hopeful last week when police confirmed reports that a newborn girl was found on a doorstep in Wayne County, approximately 45 minutes from Jessie's home.  The baby's umbilical cord was still attached — tied at the end with a rubber band.  However, their hopes were dashed when the Wayne County Sheriff's Department announced that the baby was not Jessie's and that the infant belonged to a Wayne County woman who has since admitted leaving her newborn on the doorstep.
