CANTON, OH (Crime Library)  — A surprising development has occurred in the disappearance of 26-year-old Jessie Marie Davis.  Yesterday evening, police confirmed reports that a newborn was found on a doorstep in Wayne County, approximately 45 minutes from Jessie's home.

On Monday night, Donald and Hallie Redman decided to dine out.  When the couple returned home at about 7:40 p.m., they discovered a white wicker basket on their front porch.  They were shocked to find inside a newborn girl wrapped in a white blanket.  The baby's umbilical cord was still attached — tied at the end with a rubber band.

The baby was having trouble breathing due to mucus in her airways so the Redman's immediately called 911.  When paramedics arrived on the scene, they transported the baby to Wooster Community Hospital, where she is said to be in good condition.

According to doctors, the baby was born in a home birth.  She weighs about 6 pounds and is less than one day old.  Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department refuse to speculate on whether or not the baby is Jessie's pending the result of DNA swabs that were taken from the baby.
