DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Police say they expect DNA evidence will connect Tracy Devon Newton, 29, to a six-year series of sexual attacks on women in Daytona Beach. Police arrested Newton last week after he attacked a woman with a utility knife. Authorities are also trying to determine if Newton is responsible for several unsolved serial murders. They expect to have the test results for those cases sometime next week. Newton is being held at the Duval County jail on $50,000 bail for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

TRENTON, N.J. — Police have asked the FBI for assistance in solving a series of murders that began earlier this month. On March 5, Rajeem Denson, 20, was shot near his Marion Street home. Seven hours later, Jarrett James, 18, was shot on Bellevue Avenue. The following day, Joseph Massaquoi, 23, was shot to death in his Fulton Street apartment. Four days went by before the fourth shooting. On March 10, Henry S. Hicks, 50, was shot dead on Hoffman Avenue. The final murder occurred this past Tuesday, when John William Laster, 21, was gunned down in the 300th block of Rutherford Avenue. Police say they have not ruled out the possibility that a serial shooter may be responsible for the murders. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (609) 278-8477.

PORT ALLEN, La. — Prosecutors say they will be using a confession made by suspected serial killer Sean Vincent Gillis as evidence against him in his trial for the 1999 death of Joyce Williams, 36. According to court documents, Gillis told authorities he murdered and dismembered Williams at his house and then dumped her body. Gillis has confessed to murdering eight women over the last 10 years. To date, investigators have charged him in seven of those murders. His trial is scheduled to start next Tuesday.

DETROIT, Mich. — For the second time in eight days, a Wayne County jury has convicted suspected serial killer Shelly Brooks, 38, of first-degree murder. Brook's latest conviction is for the murder of Rhonda Myles. Last week, Brooks was convicted in the 2002 killing of 33-year-old Pamela Greer. Prosecutors say Brooks murdered seven women over a six-year period. Following his arrest, Brooks allegedly confessed to luring the victims to abandoned buildings, where he would murder them. Brooks will be sentenced on March 22.
