PHOENIX (Crime Library) — Although Jacquelan "Jackie" Hartman's body has not yet been found, authorities have charged the man they suspect of killing her with kidnapping and first-degree murder.
The Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced Friday that a grand jury indicted 25-year-old Jonathan Ian Burns, an ex-con who spent seven years in Arizona prisons, for abducting, sexually assaulting, and killing the 19-year-old nursing student. The indictment also included a weapons charge.

Jackie Hartman was last seen about 2:00 a.m. on January 28, while on a date with Burns. The two had met a few days before at a gas station, according to her father, David Hartman. Jackie and her 17-year-old sister, Randi, sneaked out of their parents' house so that Jackie could meet up with Burns.
"She had never been out on a date before and never really had any interest in it, but she was the maid of honor for a friend of hers with a wedding coming, so she became a little more interested in guys," David Hartman, who is originally from upstate New York, told The Buffalo News.
After visiting with Burns, Jackie was supposed to meet back up with her sister just before 5:00 a.m. When Jackie didn't show up, her sister called her cell phone and spoke with her. Jackie has not been seen since.
