Liza's family has been forbidden to see the children, which is adding to their grief. The oldest daughter is angry, demanding to know why "mommy left me, she promised she wouldn't leave me."
Sophia said for the longest time, she refused to believe that Liza was gone. "My son said, 'Mom, if that helps you sleep at night, believe what you want to believe.' My heart tells me she is still with me but my head has to wake up."
The upcoming holiday season is adding to the family's grief, a devastating time of year instead of something to rejoice.
"It's getting worse for me every day," Sophia said. The only glimmer of light in her world is Detective Buono, who promised to keep Liza's case alive. "He told me, 'I have the folder on my desk and I see it every day. I'm not giving up on this.' He has been my rock," Sophia said.
