MIAMI, FL — Police have connected Guillermo Valencia, 32, to the unsolved murders of Leonides Ramos, 51, and Osvaldo Del Pino, 39. The murders stunned the gay community in 1998, leading many to speculate a serial killer was stalking homosexual men. Police linked Valencia to the killings using fingerprint and DNA evidence found at the home of one of the victims. At the time of his arrest Valencia was already in prison on another charge and awaiting deportation to Mexico. He is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail, on two counts of first-degree murder.

HOUSTON, TX— A body found in a ditch 18 months ago has been identified as that of 31-year-old Lisa Holland. Investigators have yet to comment on a cause of death. Lisa was the seventh victim found dumped in the area in the last two years. Despite the similarities among the cases police say they do not believe a serial killer is responsible. The investigation continues.

Matthew Macon

LANSING, MI — The attorney for suspected serial killer Matthew "Chilly" Emmanuel Macon, 27, has announced his plans to file a formal request asking for a change of venue, citing pretrial publicity as well as comments made to the media by public officials. Macon's family continues to maintain his innocence and last month they held a rally against "injustice" at the base of the state Capitol steps. In September, investigators arrested Macon and charged him in the death of 64-year-old Sandra Eichorn. At that time, police said that Macon, a man who has been in and out of prison since 2001, was a suspect in at least seven unsolved murders that occurred last summer in central Michigan. Police later filed additional murder charges against Macon in the death of 41-year-old Karen Yates. Authorities say Macon could also face charges in the deaths of Ruth Hallman, 76; Deborah Cooke, 36; Debra Renfors, 46; Barbara Jean Tuttle, 45; and Carolyn Kronenberg, 60. Macon is being held without bond in Ingham County Jail. No trial date has been set.

MODIMOLLE, South Africa — Police searching for the bodies of several children who went missing since 2004, found bones in a field on Friday. "We are not sure if the bones belong to one of the missing children, or if they are human. Police are still waiting for forensic evidence," Police Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo told Iol.co.za. Mojapelo said police have recovered the bodies of seven of the eleven missing children to date. "Forensic evidence points to one person, so we think that there is a serial killer at large," Mojapelo said, adding, "Their ages range from four to eight-years-old. The children that were found had been raped and strangled." Police are offering a R250 000 reward for information that leads them to the victims' bodies.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Twelve months ago the bodies of four prostitutes were found behind a motel in West Atlantic City and police have yet to make an arrest in the investigation. "We fully recognize that it's been a year since the bodies of the women were discovered," Atlantic County Prosecutor Theodore Housel said in an interview with Courierpostonline.com. "This is an open, active, important investigation. We are pursuing a number of investigative techniques including, but not limited to, additional forensic tests." When the victims were found they were all lined up, with their heads pointing in the same direction. Police initially questioned a former resident of the motel, but to date he has not been charged in connection with the case.

Daniel Conahan

FORT MYERS, Fla.— In April an ecologist who was surveying a wooded lot made a startling discovery when he stumbled upon three human skeletons. When investigators arrived on the scene, they discovered an additional five skeletons, suggesting that the area may have been a dumping ground for a serial killer. Authorities have now identified two of the bodies as those of Erik D. Kohler and John C. Blevins. Both men, who were in their 20s, disappeared in 1995. The men may have been victims of Daniel C. Conahan. In 1999 Conahan was convicted in the murder of 21-year-old Richard Montgomery. Conahan has long been considered a suspect in the murders of several other young men whose remains were found in Charlotte County in the mid-1990s. Police have yet to determine a cause of death in these most recent cases and they are still working to identify the other victims.

Peter Tobin

LONDON— Earlier this month police investigating the 1991 disappearance of a teenage girl discovered skeletal remains in the back garden of a home that had once been occupied by convicted sex offender and killer Peter Britton Tobin, 61, in the town of Margate. Forensic teams using geophysics equipment to identify areas where the ground had been disturbed discovered the remains after an exhaustive 12-hour search of the back yard of Tobin's former residence. Just days later police found a second set of human remains on the property. Essex Police now say that Tobin was attacked and beaten by a fellow inmate. As of this writing his condition is unknown.
