Dearborn Police Chief Mike Celeski told Crime Library that he asked for the FBI's assistance not long after Zorkot's arrest.
The FBI won't discuss the case except to say that federal charges have not been filed, although Special Agent Dawn Clenney with the FBI's Detroit office would not rule out the possibility of future federal charges.

"The FBI is working with the Dearborn Police Department," Clenney told Crime Library. "We are assisting them in their investigation."
Despite Zorkot's confession of intent, his Web site's slobbering adoration of the terror group Hezbollah, his tactical clothing, his painted face, and the loaded assault rifle he carried into a family park, for some reason law enforcement officials are reluctant to call Zorkot a terror suspect.
"Was he really dangerous or was he acting out some fantasy? We don't know," Dearborn Mayor John O'Reilly was quoted in the Detroit Free Press as saying. "Right now, there is no evidence that he had any kind of plan. ... We haven't found any established link between him and any terrorist groups."
