The remaining eight cities on the Census Bureau's list each had an Arab population of less than 1 percent. And those were the 10 cities with the highest concentrations of Arab residents.

So Dearborn stands out as an enclave of Arab, and by extension Muslim, culture. So much so that in June the University of Michigan at Dearborn announced it was going to spend $25,000 of public money to install foot baths in two campus restrooms so that Muslim students could wash their feet before prayers.

The announcement raised the ire of some since many court rulings in recent years have not allowed even the slightest accommodation for Christian or Jewish symbols or facilities at publically funded places such as courthouses or town halls.

'My Personal Jihad'
