While police were busy looking for Harris Saturday afternoon, she was in route to the home of a friend on Staten Island.  Once there, her friend reportedly called 9-1-1 to report an emotionally disturbed person.  An ambulance then transported Harris to Bayley Seton Hospital, where she was admitted to the psychiatric ward.

"That she killed in this particular fashion would be revenge.  For a woman to do this to her stepfather, it says 'abused' all over it," Dr. Louis Schlesinger, a professor of forensic psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said in an interview with NYdailynews.com yesterday.

"Castration, there's a message there: She's basically eliminating the technique of abuse," he said.

As of this writing, Harris has not been charged for her stepfather's murder.  She is currently under psychiatric observation.  Hospital personnel have barred police from interviewing her at this time, citing her current mental state.  Nonetheless, police officers remain posted at the hospital, keeping vigilance over Harris' room.

When Harris' attorney, Arthur Aidala, spoke with Newsday.com yesterday he called his client's stepfather "a monster," adding, "and living with a monster from the age of three is something that you just don't recover from without professional help."

Perhaps in the coming days, more details will emerge.  In the meantime, readers are invited to discuss the case at Crime Library's message boards.
