Investigators spent two days investigating Kreider's claim before announcing an arrest on Saturday.  "This was not a random act," Lancaster County District Attorney Don Totaro said at a news conference this weekend.  "He broke in with the intent to kill ... the prosecution phase begins today."

Kreider's parents are divorced and his time was divided between their two residences.  According to media reports, he has an older sister and a younger brother.  His father, Timothy, 39, is a mortgage broker who lives south of Blossom Hill.  His mother is a newspaper delivery person who lives on Cobblestone Lane, less than a mile from the Haines's home.

According to Kreider's Cobblestone Lane neighbors, they suspected something was wrong last week when several police officers arrived at his mother's house.

"Her son was locked in his room with a gun, on the phone with his friends saying he was going to commit suicide," neighbor Norris Pasic told WGAL-TV Monday.  Police have not yet commented on the alleged incident.

Classmates of Kreider have described him as a highly intelligent student who was enrolled in advanced-placement classes.  During the school year, he participated in the school's silent reading club, and he was a former member of the school's rifle team.
