"The tidal wave did not stop here. It has traveled many miles across Europe, across the sea to Glasgow, Liverpool, Leicester, Ireland, America, Canada, New Zealand, and continental Europe, where we have many friends and family."

Gerry also thanked everyone who was supporting his family through prayer and various other means.

"They have taken our strength, and they are taking action. These actions are to make Madeleine's disappearance more public in the hope that we will get her back sooner as a result."

Yesterday, Portuguese police questioned three people and searched a villa in Praia da Luz, approximately 100 yards from the Ocean Club complex where Madeleine disappeared.

According to the Anatolian Times, a resident of the villa, Robert Murat, 33, was taken to police headquarters for questioning.  Sources say Murat is an expatriate who is divorced and lives at the villa with his 71-year-old mother and three-year-old son.

British journalist, Lori Campbell, reportedly told police Murat was acting suspicious in the days following Madeleine's abduction.

"Basically, he surfaced on Friday afternoon last week and was walking around as if he was somebody official," Campbell told the Anatolian Times.  "He claimed that he was just a local guy who spoke fluent Portuguese and English and was helping the family.

"He was coming in and out of the family apartment speaking with the media and acting like he was somebody official.  But when questioned about it, he was very vague about his position."

Police have not described Murat as a suspect.  And they are not yet commenting on what, if any, connection he may have to the case.
