Why did the authorities — the Brunswick City police, the Glynn County police, the probation officers and courts not take into consideration George Edenfield's behavior before they granted him another ten years of probation three days before he abducted Christopher Barrios?

Unhappily, because those neighbors who witnessed Edenfield's unacceptable behavior either reported it to individuals they mistakenly believed would take action, such as reporting it to the authorities, or, in at least one case, didn't report it to anyone at all. Of all the complaints I heard voiced about George Edenfield's threatening behavior, none of these complaints were ever relayed directly or indirectly to the authorities before Christopher disappeared.

While one can legitimately regret that George Edenfield was not locked up in 1997, one has to wonder what might have occurred if authorities had known about his actual behavior and if whatever steps authorities might have taken would have resulted in Christopher Barrios being alive today.
