BRADDOCK, Penn. (Crime Library) — The Allegheny County medical examiner has ruled 23-month-old Nyia Page's death a homicide.  According to Dr. Karl Williams, Nyia died of exposure and hypothermia, after someone took her to an abandoned playground off Fleet Street and left her to die.  Williams does not believe the child got to the location of her own free will.  He would not comment on any other details of the details of the autopsy, pending a police investigation.

In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said his investigators were still reviewing the autopsy.  "We're looking at all avenues," he said.  "We're not ruling anything out."

Nyia's mother, Darlene Robinson, sent an email statement to the media yesterday, expressing her gratitute to searchers and her desire that the person responsible for her daughter's death to be brought to justice.

"I want to deeply thank everyone for their support and for helping me find my baby," Robinson wrote.  "I would like to give a special thanks to the person who found her.  I would also like to thank the media for respecting my space through this very very hard time.  I'm sorry I can't face anyone right now to thank everyone in person.  I have all the hope in the world that we will find the monster who did this to my baby.  Again thank you, thank you very much for everyone's support.  Thank you."

As news of the autopsy spread, investigators announced they had arrested Nyia's father, William Lorenzo Page, 22, on unrelated charges.  According to court documents, investigators were questioning a six-year-old boy about Nyia's disappearance, when he revealed that Page had indecently assaulted him and struck him with a belt on previous occasions.  Investigators have not said if they consider Page a person of interest in his daughter's death.
