He then hung up the phone, but called back shortly thereafter and again mistook the investigator for his wife.
"I love you. I'm so sorry. It only happened once, and I know I f—ked you over," he said, according to the affidavits.
The affidavits also state that at least three different weapons were used to murder the Lentzes. According to a report by a forensic pathologist, some of the wounds were consistent with a scissors-type instrument, while the others appeared to have been inflicted by two different knives.

On Jan. 16, Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden held a press conference and announced that Koepp, 47, had been arrested for the murders of Danyetta Lentz, 38, and her two children Nicole, 17, and Scott, 14. However, last week, Rock County District Attorney David O'Leary said there is insufficient evidence to charge Koepp with the murders. According to statements he made to the press last week, O'Leary is waiting for DNA test results from the State Crime Laboratory.

Yesterday, Koepp appeared in court to face charges for drunken driving, fleeing officers and reckless endangerment. Following the brief court proceeding, a judge set a February 6th trial date for the traffic charges. Koepp, who has not been formally charged in the murders, is currently being held on a $60,000 bond.
