Shotgun fired twice
Four months have passed since that fateful day in September, Trenton Duckett remains missing, and questions due to lack of information, rumor, or both continue to plague this tragic case.

The revelation that two shots were fired on the day Melinda Duckett died has been confirmed. Although Bill had to repair the roof eave due to gunshot damage, it was not until he received a copy of the search warrant itemizing confiscated items that he learned two shots had been fired.
From the warrant, law enforcement found a spent shell on the closet floor. Another spent shell remained chambered in the bolt-action shotgun that was used to take Melinda's life. The shells were Sears sport shot—a fairly light load for a 12-gauge shotgun.
It's unusual for a woman to commit suicide with a gun and perhaps even more unusual to kill herself with a shotgun. A shotgun virtually obliterates whatever it hits, which in this particular situation was Melinda's head and face. However, Melinda was familiar with guns and had, according to people close to the investigation, gone to target practice at various times.
