Richmond, Va. (Crime Library) - Authorities are investigating the savage slayings of all four members of a well-known family in the Richmond music scene whose bodies were discovered with their throats slit inside their burning home on New Year's Day.
Investigators would release few details about the probe, and by early Monday had still not officially identified the victims. Friends and neighbors have told Crime Library that the victims were well-respected musician Bryan Harvey, his businesswoman wife Kathryn, who is also the half sister of television actor Steven Culp, and their two young daughters, nine-year-old Stella and Ruby, 4.

According to witnesses and published accounts, the bodies were discovered about 1:40 p.m. Sunday when Bryan Harvey's long time musical partner arrived at the family's comfortable Woodland Heights home to help them set up for a New Year's chili party.
Johnny Hott, who had founded the popular two-man rock band "House of Freaks," with Harvey in the late 1980s, told authorities that he arrive early to help with the party, smelled smoke and summoned the fire department. Moments later, fire fighters found the bodies in the basement. The victims were bound and all had their throats slit, according to published reports.
Richmond police officials, who are heading the probe, declined to comment on the investigation Monday, other than to say that it is being treated as a homicide. It was not immediately clear whether investigators found sign of a struggle, or whether anything was missing from the home. It was also unclear whether there had been any sign of forced entry.
The slayings were the first in 18 years in the quiet Woodland Heights neighborhood, and grieving friends say they cannot imagine that the Harveys would harm each other or why anyone else would have wanted to harm them.
