"Patrick and Meredith were in Meredith's room, while I had stayed in the kitchen," the published confession reads. "I can't remember how long they were together in the room, but I can only say that at a certain point, I had heard Meredith screaming, and I was scared, so I covered my ears. After that, I don't remember anything; my head is very confused.

"I don't remember if Meredith called out or if I heard thuds because I was upset, but I can imagine what was happening.

"I can't remember if Raffaele was there that night. I remember waking up in his bed at his house and that I went back to my house where I found the door open.

"I want to tell you what happened because it's left me really shocked, and I am really scared of Patrick... I met Patrick on the morning of November 5th; he was asking me questions. He wanted to know what I had told the police; he wanted to know if I wanted to talk to journalists so I could find out what was known about Meredith's death."

The roles played by the three suspects remain unclear. Some reports suggest police believe Meredith was killed because she refused to take part in a sex game with friends, but police have yet to confirm or deny those reports, other than to say all three "actively took part in the crime."

Like her London roommate, Amanda Knox first arrived in Perugia two months ago to take part in the Universitą per Stranieri one-year exchange program. Knox was born and raised in the United States in Seattle, Washington and is the daughter of a teacher and a professional soccer player. She is a 2005 graduate of Seattle Prep and was a student in good standing at the University of Washington prior to entering the exchange program. Not long after arriving in Perugia, Knox was hired as a barmaid at Le Chic, a bar owned by Patrick Diya Lumumba.

According to court records, Knox only had one previous brush with the law, when she was cited in Seattle earlier this year for creating a residential disturbance. Details of the incident are not yet known, but records indicate Knox was fined $269.
