"We are working on this round the clock and have carried out a very detailed and thorough examination of the house," Police Chief Marco Chiacchiera told News.scotsman.com. "There is plenty of evidence for us, and with the help of the scientists, we should be able to build up a good picture of the killer, but as yet, we have no definite suspect. One thing we can be fairly certain of is that Meredith knew her killer, as the door of the house was not forced open."

According to police, Meredith and Knox's two Italian roommates were with their families when the murder took place.

Following the revelation of Meredith's death to the media, Sollecito gave Dailymail.co.uk his own account of the night her body was discovered, claiming to have followed police into Meredith's room after they broke the door down.

"It is something I never hope to see again," he said. "There was blood everywhere, and I couldn't take it all in... It was hard to tell it was Meredith at first, but Amanda started crying and screaming. I dragged her away because I didn't want her to see it. It was so horrible."

On Nov. 4, pathologist Luca Lalli told Telegraph.co.uk that a post-mortem examination suggested Meredith had been murdered with a penknife. Lalli then downplayed media hype, suggesting the incident was a sex crime, even though bodily fluids found on Meredith's body indicated the presence of two different men prior to her death.

"I can confirm that Miss Kercher may have been sexually active before her death, but it was definitely not a rape," he said.
