The suspect in this case has been behind bars in the Scott County Jail on suspicion of murder since his arrest on Friday. The County Attorney's office filed paperwork yesterday to hold him over another 24 hours until police finish their investigation.

Investigators have not yet commented on a cause of death. According to police, Katherine's autopsy is being conducted by the Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Hastings.

Yesterday, Katherine's mother wrote a heartfelt letter to her students at Tartan High School, which read in part:

"Don't be afraid to mention her. It might make me cry, but that's not so terrible. I won't lose it. I do a lot of laughing when I weep too. And I promise I won't come back if I think I'm not ready.
