"This was to be a short-term position between jobs for her," Katherine's parents, Rolf and Nancy Olson, wrote in a post to a memorial page set up for their daughter at Facebook.com. "Over the years, she found the Internet, particularly Craig's List, to be a helpful tool for finding kindred spirits and opportunities. Her adventure to Turkey last year was the result of such a process. Thursday morning, she went to an address in Savage, thinking it was a married couple who recently relocated to the Twin Cities. It wasn't."

In discussing Katherine's case with KARE 11 News, Craigslist.org site founder Craig Newmark said he was shocked by the murder.
"I can't recall a single case like it," Newmark said. "This is the worst that I can recall... I'd just like to express my condolences. This is a real tragedy, and we're more eager than ever to help deal with the bad guy."
Craigslist.org has received a lot of unwanted media attention in recent months for criminal activities being perpetrated by users of the online community. In April, a Tacoma, Washington house belonging to Laurie Raye was gutted and vandalized after someone who knew the owner sought revenge by posting an ad to the website instructing people to come to the house. "Take what you want," the ad said. "Everything is free. Please help yourself to anything on the property."
