James McFarland Jr. Arrested in Death of Erin Stanley

McFarland expressed similar sympathies in a recent interview with Pal-item.com.

"We were engaged and planned to get married. I would never have done anything to her," McFarland said. "...I didn't have anything to do with either death or I would be in jail by now. They can look all they want. That's their job. I would just like to know who killed my girlfriend."

Perhaps McFarland should enlist the help of OJ. They appear to be two peas in a pod with the same dilemma; they both want to find the "real" killers. But there again, if McFarland is convicted, he will have years of solitude to spew out his own If I Did It masterpiece. No pun intended, of course.

The first time Centerville residents heard of 19-year-old Erin's death was when they read her obituary in the September 2 edition of the Palladium-Item.

Erin Stanley

"Erin R. Stanley, 19, of Centerville, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Reid Hospital. Born April 19, 1988, in Richmond, to Dale and Lonny Fleenor Stanley, she was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Alexis McFarland; her parents; and a sister, Kelly Stanley. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Mills Funeral Home, Centerville, is in charge of arrangements."

There was no mention in the paper or in the news that Erin's death was suspicious. From the very start, investigators were tight-lipped and nary a word was said suggesting that a murder may have taken place.
