BURLINGTON, Vt. (Crime Library) — The family of missing University of Vermont senior Michelle Gardner-Quinn issued an impassioned plea Tuesday for her safe return, even as police, aided by the FBI, National Guardsmen and trained sex crimes specialists fanned out through this normally peaceful Vermont city and its environs, searching for clues to her disappearance.
Authorities have also expanded their investigation, searching at least one area in a nearby town of Richmond. In a statement released earlier today Burlington police declined to discuss details of the search in Richmond and insisted that it represented only one aspect of the probe.

"It should be stressed that that this is one avenue of investigation that is being pursued at this time and we remain open to all possibilities...No one associated with the Richmond address should be considered a suspect in a crime at this time," the police statement said.
"At this stage in a complex case of this nature we are focused primarily on finding Michelle and bringing her home safely" the statement continued. "Secondary to that, if a crime was committed it is important for us to identify anyone that may be involved in Michelle's disappearance but also to eliminate innocent persons from suspicion."
