PORT ALLEN, LA — Suspected serial killer Sean Vincent Gillis, 45, pled guilty today to second-degree murder just 18 hours before his trial was scheduled to start for the 1999 murder of Joyce Williams. "I strangled Joyce Williams, and she died," Gillis said in court while making his surprise plea. Afterwards, 18th Judicial District judge Robin Free sentenced Gillis to life in prison without parole. Gillis still faces charges in the deaths of seven other women.

MARYLAND — A circuit court judge has sentenced confessed serial killer Alexander Wayne Watson Jr. to three life sentences in prison for the Oct. 8, 1986, murder of Boontem Anderson, 33; the May 23, 1988, rape and murder of Elaine Buchanan Shereika, 37; and the Jan. 15, 1993, killing of Lisa Haenel, 14. "I think you are an evil man," Judge Joseph P. Manck said before handing down the sentences. Watson was already serving another life sentence for a 1994 murder.

ATLANTA, GA Police have charged Charles Lendelle Carter, 39, in the deaths of four people dating back 15 years. The victims have been identified as Lisa Rosenthal, 40, Apriel Allen, 38, Angela Thayer Green, 35, and Michael Leon Sneed, 35. "He's psychotic," Fulton County police homicide investigator Glenn Kalish told reporters. "Without question, he's the most disturbed person I've ever come across. I honestly believe there are more bodies out there. He is just so deeply disturbed, for whatever reason, that killing is just a part of his life." Police say Carter is considered a "person of interest" in at least one other murder.

NASHVILLE, TN In July, authorities arrested Bruce Mendenhall, 56, and charged him with the murder of 25-year-old Sara Nicole Hulbert. Before the ink was dry on his arrest warrant, police in Birmingham, Alabama, filed murder charges against Mendenhall in the death of 44-year-old Lucille Carter. Since his arrest, police have suspected Mendenhall in at least four other murders. Today Mendenhall was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in the death of Symantha Winters, 48, of Nashville. Police say Mendenhall shot Symantha early last month and stuffed her body in a trashcan 26 miles east of Nashville. Since his arrest, nearly 100 police agencies across the United States have inquired about Mendenhall, suspecting that he could be responsible for other murders. The investigation continues.
