ENGLAND Convicted serial killer Daniel Gonzalez, 26, was found dead in his room at the Broadmoor Hospital — a high security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire — last week. According to police, Gonzalez had slashed his wrists with a broken CD. It is unknown why Gonzalez, who was considered a suicide risk, was allowed to have such an item in his cell. The incident is currently under investigation. In March 2006, Gonzalez received six life sentences for a series of murders dating back to 2004. At the time of his arrest, Gonzalez told police he fantasized about becoming Freddy Krueger — a fictional "undead" serial killer from Wes Craven's film series A Nightmare on Elm Street.

BUFFALO, N.Y. Confessed serial killer Altemio Sanchez, 48, whom the media dubbed the "Bike Path Rapist," was sentenced today to 75 years to life in prison for the murders of Linda Yalem, Majane Mazur, and Joan Diver. "I did these crimes, and I should pay for these crimes," Sanchez said prior to sentencing. "I apologize, but I know I can never bring back any loved ones ... I will pay for these crimes for the rest of my life." Sanchez was arrested in November 2006, when authorities matched his DNA to evidence found at the crime scenes. While awaiting sentencing, he confessed to committing 12 rapes dating back to 1981. However, due to the statute of limitations, Sanchez cannot be charged in those crimes.
