PLAINFIELD, Ill. (Crime Library)   — Police Chief Donald Bennett held a press conference on Thursday naming Craig Stebic a "person of interest" in the disappearance of his wife, Lisa Stebic.  The couple was in the middle of divorce proceedings at the time of Lisa's disappearance nearly three months ago, and since that time Craig has offered investigators only minimal assistance.  He has refused to participate in searches and will not allow police to question the couple's children, ages 10 and 12.

"Mr. Stebic's refusal to allow access to his children has clearly hampered our investigation," Chief Bennett told reporters at the press conference.  "It is also the belief of this agency that the children, if allowed, would welcome the opportunity to locate their mother.  Mr. Stebic's refusal to allow access to his children has clearly hampered our investigation."

Lisa's family members are hopeful that naming Stebic a person of interest will prompt him to let police interview the children, who they believe could have information that could prove useful in the investigation.

"Lisa's family has always encouraged Craig to cooperate fully with police," Melanie Greenberg, a family spokeswoman, told The Associated Press on Friday.  "We need closure.  We need to find out what happened to Lisa."

Lisa's children were home on the day of their mother's disappearance; however, at some point they went on a bicycle ride and when they returned their mother was gone and has not been seen since.
