Boyfriend of Beauty Queen Nona Dirksmeyer Charged With Murder

By  Steve Huff

Two days after Nona Dirksmeyer was murdered, a friend of hers from high school wrote the following in an online journal:

... Nona is dead ( ... ) I hoped natural death and expected suicide.  I found out something last night that pretty much excludes both of those.  Her throat was slit and they think she was bashed in the head with a lamp.

I wish I could have been there.  Even if I would have fallen trying to protect her, at least I would have done something.

Hate, sadness, and sickness don't quite cover how I feel ...

The former high school friend of Dirksmeyer's has made no more posts in his online journal since publishing the above.

Curiously, though that post appeared to have been made on the 17th of December, it was not until March 16, 2006 that the state medical examiner released the autopsy report on Nona Dirksmeyer. That report indicated that the weapon most consistent with the blunt-force trauma suffered by Dirksmeyer was indeed the base of a lamp that was found near her body. Research into archived and available newspaper accounts of the investigation in the months following revealed no mention of a lamp as the murder weapon until the day of Kevin Jones's arrest, March 31, 2006.

The night Nona Dirksmeyer's body was discovered and the scene of the crime processed for evidence, a floor lamp near her body had blood on it. It was a three-piece fixture with a heavy base. Blood was found on the light bulb, and in that blood were fingerprint impressions.

Comparison with Kevin Jones's fingerprints indicated a match.

Yet Jones denied touching the lamp when questioned by authorities.

And his friend, Ryan Whiteside, told police that he'd only seen Kevin touch Nona's body, and a greeting card.

If Nona's friend made his journal post just two days after her murder, who informed him as to what the probable murder weapon was?
