Initial reports suggested that Quawee had been with the Johnsons for only a day or two before his death; however, one resident of the apartment complex told Crime Library that they had been watching the child for the past two months.  Then, about two weeks ago, neighbors did not see the child anymore, and Shonna Johnson said the child was back with "its" mother.  During this time, Shonna rarely left the apartment, and was only seen getting the mail or taking out the trash.

On Friday, neighbor Lee Fennell told a similar story about the child's sudden disappearance to the Savannah Morning News.

"I was thinking the boy was back with his mother," Fennell said.  "But he was actually tied up in the house then... I'm trying to understand it.  I would like to ask them what and why, but there's no excuse for that."

Why Shatoya left her son with the Johnsons for such long periods of time is not yet clear, and authorities are not commenting.

The Johnsons are being held without bond at the Chatham County jail.  A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 12.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call CrimeStoppers 912-234-2020.
