HOLLYWOOD — Jennifer Lopez, 38, has received a great deal of media attention this week after receiving an award from Amnesty International, for her role in the film Bordertown.  Not only does Lopez star in the film, but she also co-produced it.  She portrays real-life journalist, Diana Washington Valdez, 51, who covered a series of murders in Ciudad Juarez, near the border that separates Mexico from Texas.  Over the last 13 years, 400 women have been found dead, many of them sexually assaulted, tortured and mutilated beyond recognition.  As many as 600 more women are currently missing.  Officials in Mexico downplay the murders, which many consider an epidemic of mass proportion.  The film, which also stars Martin Sheen and Antonio Banderas, will be released later this year.

THOHOYANDOU, South Africa — Convicted serial killer Mukosi Mulaudzi is expected to appear in court today, for the murder of four children in a Tshivhilidulu village.  In 2006, Mulaudzi was convicted of killing 15 people between 1996 and 2006.  He escaped from prison this past fall and that is when prosecutors allege he committed the four additional murderers.  According to court documents, Mulaudzi would rape his victims before murdering them.

DETROIT, Mich. — Jury selection has begun in the trial of suspected serial killer Shelly Brooks, 38.  According to prosecutors, Brooks murdered seven women over a six-year period.  His trial in one of those cases is scheduled to begin next week.  It is unclear if he will go to trial in the other six cases.  Police say Brooks confessed to luring the prostitutes to abandoned buildings, where he would murder them.  Brooks' lawyer says his client is innocent.
