GILBERT, Ariz.  (Crime Library) — Police confirmed late Wednesday that the body found Sunday in a isolated area east of Phoenix is that of missing 19-year-old nursing student Jacquelan "Jackie" Hartman.

Jackie disappeared in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 28, and was last seen in the company of Jonathan Ian Burns, a 25-year-old ex-con who was recently released after serving a seven-year stretch in the Arizona prison system.

Sunday afternoon, three weeks to the day since Jackie disappeared, a recreational all-terrain vehicle rider discovered her body lying in the desert approximately one mile off of state Highway 87, right where police, family, and other searchers have been looking for her for more than two weeks.

According to Gilbert police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Duncan, the ATV rider found the body northwest of Saguaro Lake, near the community of Fountain Hills, approximately 45 miles northeast of the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert, where Jackie lived with her parents.

"This was a very remote location," Duncan said.

Although the body was found Sunday, detectives didn't allow it to be removed until Monday night, Duncan said. Investigators spent that time combing the area for evidence, although Duncan would not comment on what additional evidence they found.
