PAHRUMP, Nev. (Crime Library) Paul Fields is adamant: He did not kill his wife. Nor did he have anything to do with her disappearance.

"I want to find my wife," he tells Crime Library in an exclusive interview.

Maureen Fields, 41, was reported missing Feb. 15, 2006 after she failed to show up for work at a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Pahrump, Nev., where she had worked as a teller for three months.

Pahrump is a fast-growing gambling town two miles from the California state line, halfway between Las Vegas and Death Valley. The town boasts five full-service casinos and at least three brothels. It is also the hometown of paranormal radio talk show host Art Bell.

On Feb. 16, police found Maureen's 2004 Hyundai about 12 miles across the state line in Inyo County, Calif. The car had been abandoned in the desert, about 125 feet from the roadway and with the keys in the ignition.

Fields says he last saw his wife about 8:00 a.m., Feb. 15, when she left for work.

"We had a little spat in the morning, nothing serious," he says. "There was no yelling, no screaming."

The "spat" was over sex. Fields says his wife was too tired to have sex the night before, so he asked her to wake him up early the next morning. Instead, she let him sleep in. Maureen left for work shortly after Fields woke up. Before she left, and after their disagreement, Fields says, Maureen mumbled something he didn't understand: "I might as well do it now. Why wait?"

"I never gave it much thought," Fields says. "I don't know what that meant."
