LEESBURG, Fla. (Crime Library) —

Final hours in a very complicated case

Eleven days had passed since Melinda Duckett reported her son, Trenton Duckett, missing. Bill and Nancy Eubank were worried. Melinda seemed to be sinking into a deep depression. Thursday, September 7, 2006, was especially rough as news of Melinda's missing son began gaining national attention and individuals gathered on various web forums to speculate about the case of the missing two-year-old Leesburg, Florida boy.

That afternoon Melinda picked up Team Adam's Andrew Vita to discuss the situation. Team Adam is a free counseling service that offers assistance to individuals who have missing loved ones. That evening as the Eubanks prepared to turn in, Bill discovered Melinda sitting on their darkened porch scribbling away in what appeared to be a tablet. Bill urged Melinda to come in and use the kitchen table where there was more light. She said, "I'll be alright." They heard her come in after they went to bed.

The following day Melinda seemed to shrink deeper into herself, declining to join the elder Eubanks for their routinely scheduled lunch at the Cracker Barrel between 2 and 3 PM. Melinda was writing again—this time sitting on the floor of her bedroom, lodged between the couch and the coffee table. This would be the last time Bill and Nancy Eubank would see  their granddaughter alive.
