According to Nonnie's friend, shortly after Nonnie began dating the man she received a shocking phone call.  "(He) was a liar who was still married with a wife back in Florida I believe - but at the end of it his wife ended up calling Nonnie and asking her why she was dating her husband."  That was the extent of Nonnie's friend's knowledge on the subject.  The exact nature or the conversation is unknown, however one would expect is was not pleasant. 

In September 2005, Vehle filed a paternity dispute, claiming Savannah was not his child.  In the end, a DNA test confirmed he was the father and just two months ago a Bexar County, Texas, judge ordered Vehle to pay Nonnie $10,000 in back child support, plus $900 a month until Savannah is 18. 

"He fought tooth and nail to prevent taking any responsibility for Savannah," said one of Nonnie's friends.  "And when finally faced with having to take responsibility - as I was told, 'he told the judge that he would be a token father only' and (would) provide the monetary support mandated by the court, but that would be his only involvement."

While most of Nonnie's friends that I have spoken to have had nothing nice to say about Vehle, his neighbors in San Antonio describe him as nice, friendly and "the perfect neighbor."  I spoke with several of them on the telephone yesterday and was able to gain some insight into Vehle's life.  According to one neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, Vehle is unemployed and receives money from his mother, who neighbors describe as "very wealthy."  She supposedly owns several properties throughout the state of Texas, including a 500-acre ranch outside of Fredericksburg.   

Several people I have spoken to claim Nonnie wanted to finish out her term in the Air Force and move back to Colorado.  However today I learned she recently sold her home in Colorado and purchased one in San Antonio.  So then, it would seem she might not have been planning on returning home after all.

In an unusual turn of events, authorities in Colorado have asked that detectives in Texas remove themselves from the case.  Several people have questioned this move, as Nonnie's belongings, including a home computer, are in her San Antonio home, which is obviously not within Colorado's jurisdiction.

As we previously reported, Nonnie was supposed to meet several friends at a shopping center in Littleton for dinner the day she disappeared, however those friends say she never showed up.  According to a source close to the investigation, authorities have obtained several surveillance tapes from the shopping center, however it is unknown if the footage proved to be useful.
