As with his codefendants, Lumumba denies any involvement in the murders, claiming he was working at his bar when the murder took place. However, police say the first receipt he printed out was stamped 10:29 p.m. They also claim to have cell phone records proving he was in the area of the apartment at 8:39 p.m. on the night the murder took place.
Police now say a fourth suspect may have been involved in the murder. A fingerprint found on a blood-soaked pillow in Meredith's room does not match any of the three suspects, and neither does DNA extracted from feces found in the bathroom. Some reports suggest that another woman may have been present, citing a high heel imprint found at the scene, while others claim that an African musician was caught on tape by security cameras walking away from the house on the night of the murders.

On Sunday, an Alitalia flight from Rome landed at Heathrow Airport with Meredith's body.
"We are just happy that she is back home," Meredith's mother, Arline Kercher, told Croydonguardian.co.uk. "This is such a hard time, but we have had so much support from people, and we would just like to say thank you.
None of the suspects in this case have been charged. Last week, Judge Matteini said there were "serious indications of guilt" and enough evidence in the case to hold the three suspects in a Perugian prison on suspicion of conspiracy to commit manslaughter and conspiracy to commit sexual violence. As an American without diplomatic status, Knox is subject to Italy's local laws. All three suspects can be held for up to a year while police continue their investigation.
