A Time to Heal?
In the meantime, the community is rallying around both the Borden and Ludwig families. At a prayer service Wednesday, friends of the slain couple offered their sympathy to the Ludwig family as well as prayers for Michael and Cathryn Borden who left behind three minor children, including Kara, her 15-year-old sister Katelyn and 11-year-old David, as well as two adult sons, James and Justin.
Also on Wednesday, some of James Borden's friends, among them Zach Acox and Kellymarie Conlon announced that they had established a trust fund for the three minor children. Conlon said she had spoken with James Borden and that despite the tragedy, the family was holding up. "Mike and Cathryn raised a family that's very devout in their faith and their faith is holding them up," she told Crime Library.
Meanwhile, investigators have uncovered what may be another chilling piece of evidence. During a search of Ludwig's home authorities seized a videotape in which Ludwig and a 19-year-old friend, who has not been charged, are seen taking guns to another home the identity of the homeowner is not disclosed in the documents where they discuss plans for a late night armed raid. According to published reports, citing court documents, the pair talked about killing the occupants of the house, though it was not immediately clear whether authorities viewed the tape as an adolescent lark or as a more ominous glance into Ludwig's psyche.
Lancaster County District Attorney Donald R. Totaro, through a receptionist, declined to comment. Telephone calls to Ludwig's public defender, Merrill Spahn were not immediately returned.
