"She was such a pretty girl, so outgoing and friendly," Ascencio said. "This has been devastating for the whole family, they're going to therapy sessions to help them get through this."
The family is in shock and disbelief over the party world that Emmery inhabited, which didn't seem to meld with the innocent, demure teen-ager they all knew. Emmery would tell everyone that she was simply hanging out at a girlfriend's house or going to the movies.

"What's wrong with having a party at someone's house, why do they have to go to a place like that?" Ascencio wondered, referring to Marisol Street. "Kids want to grow up so fast now, it's sad."
