Gill's family members are also victims of his crimes.  He has left them racked with grief and guilt.  "If we knew that something was going on, we would have done something," Kaur told the National Post.  "My husband is also saying the same thing: 'Oh God, if I knew a little bit that recently his mind is changing to other directions, we would have done something. We would have saved many children from getting hurt in Dawson College.' "  In addition to the pain caused by their son's actions, various media outlets have been reporting Gill's mother, who is in her 50s, is fighting breast cancer and his father, Gurinder Gill, who is in his 60s, is recovering from a heart surgery.

On Saturday, CTV reporter Jed Kahane spoke to Gill's mother, who spoke to Kahane on condition she would not appear on camera.  "Her life is shattered, of course," Kahane told CTV Newsnet.  "She says she had no idea her son was harboring such dark thoughts.  And that he wasn't the loner, the outcast that everyone made him out to be — at least the people who he knew several years ago who have been speaking to us, among others in the past days.  But she said he had been depressed, and had even sought help for it a while back."

AsKimveer Gill's parents continued to field questions from the media on Saturday evening, a spirited memorial service for Dawson College shooting victim Anastasia DeSousa was being held at the Faith Ministry apostolic church on St. Zotique St. in Montreal.  A large, handmade sign at the front of the church was marked with the words: 'In loving memory of Anastasia DeSousa and the dates 1988 - 2006.

DeSousa's funeral is set for Tuesday in Laval, north of Montreal.  Her family members have requested that everyone who attends the service wear bright clothes and they have also asked that there be no crying, as they wish to celebrate DeSousa's life rather than mourn her death.
