          In the 1998 Rosemere High yearbook is a group photo of Gill's graduating class.  Gill is on the edge of the group, his hands at his side, expressionless.  His individual photo has the same emotionless stare.  Fellow classmates and acquaintances of Gill's claim he was a loner and have described his demeanor to the media as "zoned out."  According to neighbors, Gill's family was very quite and peaceful, never really making their presence known in the 15 years they have lived in the area.

         Kimveer Gill's mother, Parvinder Kaur, has made several statements to the press, defending her family and denying any knowledge of her son's murderous desires.  While she has acknowledged that he owned the Beretta carbine semi-automatic rifle he used during his shooting spree, she said she did not find anything unusual in his interest in firearms.  "It was a sport. It was a hobby for him," she told reporters from the National Post.  "He used to go and practice, then come back home, put the gun away.  It was not something hidden or something illegal or that he was a bad boy.  He showed the gun to everybody, to his friends, to us," she said.  It was in fact a friend who took the photos of him wielding the rifle in front of the family fireplace, which Gill posted on his Internet profile.

          Gill was very quiet in the few days before his shooting rampage.  His mother recently spoke with Radio Humsafar, a South Asian station in Montreal.  During the talk show, Kaur said she was oblivious to her son's double life on the Internet.  She also said that on the afternoon of the shooting she thought he was going to a local target range, where he pursued his gun hobby.  "They were waiting for (Kimveer) that night for supper," said Jaspal Brar, a family friend. Instead, a police officer rang the doorbell.  After explaining the horrifying events their son put into motion, investigators seized his computer and other personal belongings.
