WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (Crime Library)  — At about 9:30 a.m. yesterday, investigators with the Bloomfield and West Hartford Police Departments descended upon the Newington Road home of 41-year-old Adam Gault and his common-law wife, 41-year-old Ann Murphy.  Investigators served search warrants for a DNA swab and other miscellaneous evidence related to the disappearance of a young girl who has been missing for nearly a year.  Not long after entering the home, one investigator made a startling discovery when he moved a dresser away from a wall and found a hidden doorway.  What happened next surprised even veteran law enforcement personnel.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's website, 14-year-old Danielle Erica Cramer disappeared from her Bloomfield home on June 14, 2006.  Her classification was "Lost, Injured, Missing."  She was described as a Caucasian female, 5'0" and 100 lbs. with brown hair and eyes.

Despite the fact that Danielle had a history of running away, investigators focused their investigation on Gault, a business associate of Danielle's family who had a history of questionable involvement with minors.  Investigators questioned Gault on several occasions; however, each time, he denied any involvement in Danielle's disappearance.

According to Laurie Fass, an animal trainer who hosts WTIC's Pet Talk, Gault used to run a doggie day care business.  "He had a very booming business at one time," Fass said in an interview with The Hartford Courant.  What happened to Gault's business is not clear.  According to neighbors, he makes his living breeding dogs and holding yard sales.
