WORCESTER, MA (Crime Library) — For the last four years, prostitutes have been turning up dead in central Massachusetts, suggesting that a serial killer may be responsible for the murders. Now the recent disappearance of a known prostitute has the community wondering if the killer may have struck again.

In late January of 2007, Lineida Olivera, 34, disappeared not long after giving birth to twins. The mother of 11 was a known drug addict with a history of prostitution; however, family members say despite all her problems she would always stay in touch with them.
"My sister is the kind of person, she'd disappear for a little while, but she'd call my sister, my brother, anybody. She'd keep contact. It's not like she'd disappear completely," Olivera's sister, Marilyn Olivera, told WCVB Thursday.
Officially Lineida is considered a missing person; however, Worcester police suspect she may be the latest victim of a serial killer who has been targeting women in the area since at least 2002.
On September 24, 2003, a group of students found human skeletal remains in a shallow grave behind Hillside School, a private middle school for boys in Marlborough. Pieces of jewelry and remnants of women's clothing were found scattered around the scene. Five days later, investigators discovered a second set of human remains while canvassing the same area for clues. Unlike the first set of remains, no attempt was made to bury them.

The county medical examiner was able to identify both of the victims using dental records. The remains found in the shallow grave belonged to Carmen Rudy, 28. A mother of two teenage children, Carmen had a history of drug abuse and sometimes worked as a prostitute to support her drug addiction. According to family members, she was last seen on September 30, 2002.
