Subsequently, an autopsy on the body of Brooke Holsonback indicated that she had not drowned as police had initially believed, but had in fact been strangled. Because no witnesses saw Brooke Holsonback walking back to the dormitory, the only account of her activities was that provided by her two male friends. Afterwards, both men "lawyered up" and dropped out of Clemson, Carolina Channel.com reported.

The abduction and stabbing death of Clemson graduate student Norsaadah Husein in June of 1992 is even less similar to the murder of Tiffany Souers. Norsaadah had gone to a laundromat near the Clemson campus and was abducted from that location by person or persons unknown. Her remains were found scattered near a nuclear power station several months later. This case, like the murder of Brook Holsonback remains unsolved.
