Yesterday, Wesley and Cynthia Wiese's worst fears became a reality when they received word that the body found floating in the river had been positively identified as Coreen.

At about 1 p.m. yesterday, police made the official announcement during a press conference at the Buxton Town Hall.  According to officer Mike Grovo, the medical examiner made the identification using both dental records and DNA.  The preliminary cause of death was ruled drowning.  The autopsy showed no significant injuries to her body.  "I'm glad there's closure for the family, but I'm sad the result is what it is," Grovo said.

Coreen's parents did not attend the press conference, however they did issue the following statement to the media yesterday afternoon:

May 15th, 2007

We now know that the body found in the Saco River is our beloved daughter Coreen.

We are deeply saddened with her loss; she is loved and missed by all.

We wish to thank the community of Buxton, all of Coreen's family and friends, the media, and law enforcement personnel that have been so helpful with the search for Coreen during the past six months.

Because of all your help and God's will we are able to bring Coreen home.
