BUFFALO, N.Y. (Crime Library) —  After eluding the authorities for more than two decades, investigators in Buffalo now allege to have an elusive serial killer behind bars.  According to late-breaking reports, the man has been identified as Altemio Sanchez, 48, of Cheektowaga, New York.

According to Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard, Sanchez became a suspect when the task force discovered he was a suspect in a 1981 attack and had been arrested twice before, in 1991 and 1999, on suspicion of patronizing a prostitute.

For the past week, Sanchez had been under surveillance, and over the weekend, investigators followed him to Sole Restaurant in Williamsville.  After the suspect finished his meal and left the restaurant, investigators confiscated the tableware he had used.  DNA tests on the items returned a 100 percent match with the DNA evidence collected at the scenes of three homicides carried out by the media-dubbed "Bike Path Rapist."
