A spokesperson with the Erie County Sheriff's Department said Sanchez, a husband and father of two, was arrested after leaving his overnight shift at Outokumpu American Brass in Buffalo yesterday morning.  He was then transported to the Erie County Sheriff's Department in Buffalo, where he was questioned until 8 p.m., when his wife asked for an attorney to represent him.

During a news conference Tuesday evening, Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark said Sanchez would be arraigned on Wednesday.

"We'll probably start with charging on one homicide," Clark said. "I anticipate two others will be charged shortly...Whether other crimes beyond those three are ultimately charged I think is going to await further investigation."

The Bike Path Rapist attacked at least 11 women over the past two decades, killing three of them.  The case received national media attention this past November when authorities linked the death of 45-year-old mother of four Joan Diver, a suburban Amherst homemaker, to a series of attacks, which started in the 1980s and mysteriously stopped in the mid-1990s.

The biggest question on everyone's mind right now has to do with the 12-year span between the attacks.  Serial killers do not generally stop killing voluntarily.  If Diver proves to be his first victim in over a decade, how was Sanchez able to control his homicidal urges for such a long time?
