Dr. David Cornbleet's Murder Was Carefully Planned

He is obviously familiar with the building, as he is careful to hide his face from the cameras.  As he nears the elevator he becomes cocky.  He imitates, what can only be described as a figure skater style move, by twirling around on one heel, in a 360-degree circle.  He then steps inside the elevator and ascends to the 12th floor.  His destination is the office of Dr. David Cornbleet.

Whatever the motivation, an altercation between David and the suspect began and quickly escalated into physical violence.  The assailant pulled out a knife and exploded in a rage.  With his heart pounding in terror, David desperately fought back, the knife slicing his hands as he attempted to fend off the attacks.  At one point, he managed to strike a blow to his attacker's face, causing the man's nose to flow with blood.

David put up an unbelievable fight, but he was no match for the younger man, who stabbed him unmercifully.  As the fight left his body, David slumped to the floor.  It is unclear as to whether David was alive at this point.

What the killer did next is not entirely clear.  Evidence from the scene suggests he used an exam room sink, to wash the blood off his face and hands.  He then exited the office some 45-minutes after the cameras caught his arrival.  On his way downstairs, the elevator stopped and a woman stepped inside.  The killer kept to himself, covering his face the entire time.  Once the elevator arrived back in the lobby, the killer headed for the front entrance and the other passenger immediately walked over to the reception desk.  She said the man in the elevator was "covered in blood" and "breathing hard."  She later described him to investigators as being in his late teens to mid 20s, with short blond or light brown hair, possibly curled or wavy.

In the surveillance videos showing his departure, it is clear the killer had taken off his ball cap and replaced it with a black skullcap.  He had also taken off his jacket and he used it to cover his face.  There were some initial concerns about an unknown object protruding from his messenger bag.  Some early reports suggested he might have taken medical records.  However, when I posed that question to Jonathan yesterday, he assured me that was not a possibility.  "In addition to the records at my dad's office, he also kept index cards at home, which listed all his patients."
