According to Jonathan, his father was well liked by his patients and he often went out of his way to do everything he could for them, even the ones who had financial difficulties.

"He always thought of his patients as extended family members, talking about them all of the time and caring about them as people and not just customers.  He had legions of patients who he worked with for 10, 20 and even the entire 28 years.  I was always so proud of how he ran his practice, as he was very ethical, honest, and always put his patients first.  He did whatever he could for them often giving away medicine and helping patients in different financial situations out.  He cared more about their well being than even his own."

David and his wife, Aileen, had a very special relationship.  Throughout their 38 years of marriage, she was number one in his heart.  They spent their vacations traveling the world together and, at least once every week, David would bring her a beautiful bouquet of flowers as a symbol of his undying love. Theirs was truly the love of a lifetime.

Meticulous by nature, David would phone his wife every day at 6:20 p.m., to let her know he was on his way home from work.  However, on October 24, 2006, he didn't call.  When twenty-five minutes had passed, Aileen began to get worried.  She phoned Jonathan at 7:45 and asked him if he had seen his father.  Jonathan said he had not seen his dad all day.  Concerned, he called a family member and asked them to run over to the office to see if everything was all right.  At about 8:00, the family member arrived at Dr.Cornbleet's office, whereupon they made a shocking discovery, one that will haunt them for the rest of their life.

According to surveillance videos, an unknown male walked into the 30 N. Michigan Ave office building at 4:45 p.m.  When he comes in view of the camera, you can see he is a Caucasian male, who appears to stand approximately 6 feet tall.  He is wearing a red baseball cap with an unidentifiable symbol on the front, a gray or cream-colored hooded jacket and either blue or black pants.  He also has a dark-colored messenger bag slung over his back.  When he opens the front door, he uses a glove or white cloth, in an apparent attempt to mask his fingerprints.
