CARMEL, Ind. (Crime Library) — Last week, officers with the Carmel Police Department discovered the bodies of Susan Moulder, 29, and Jason Broadwater, 36, inside their home at 11480 Senie Lane. Evidence found at the scene suggested the couple died in an apparent murder-suicide. Both friends and family members — even police investigators — remain baffled by the couple's senseless deaths, which occurred less than a month before they were to be married.

Police were called to the couple's home at 2:45 p.m., Friday, when Broadwater failed to show up for work. When patrol officers were unable to make contact with anyone inside the residence, they requested assistance from the Carmel Fire Department. After gaining entry into the home, they discovered the bodies of Moulder and Broadwater on the second floor. According to police, Broadwater was in possession of a handgun, and a second gun lay nearby.

"Autopsies were conducted at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville," Lt. Jeff Horner of Carmel Police said in a statement released Sunday. "Preliminary results from the autopsies were consistent with a murder-suicide. It was determined that both subjects died from gunshot wounds."

According to friends of the couple, they appeared to be genuinely happy, and there were no outward signs suggesting any problems in their relationship. Investigators have also been unable to uncover a motive behind the shootings.

"We researched the address, and we have not had any calls there, any police calls whatsoever," Lt. Horner said in an interview with MSNBC. "Everybody thought that they were a nice couple. No problems. You know, they went to neighborhood functions and everyone liked them."
