RICHMOND, Va. (Crime Library) - Continued

Maybe the night of October 12, when Ben Fawley was desperate to speak to detectives from jail and tell the "real story" he felt he had an inspiration. He would tell the truth — that Taylor had died at his hand... but once again, Ben would be the victim. She was now, in his terms, a 'wild' girl, a bad girl. She was into things people didn't know about. Things had gotten out of hand. Ben Fawley was scared, then. Perhaps he even told police how he just wanted to see his kids. For them, the youthful goth, skater-boy would transform into the caring dad nearing 40 — if that would work.

Did Fawley think he'd laid out the trump card? He seemed to think he'd done that as he tried to make it obvious in his deviantart journal that Erin Crabill was responsible for all his problems. Then he was in jail, and Erin Crabill was an important witness against him, perhaps a key witness. So, ever the con, Fawley tried a new variation on his old shell game. Before, the plastic bags might tie his first story to Taylor, as might the location. Now he would be able to admit sexual contact, if there was still DNA evidence. Now, Ben Fawley could even excuse any injuries he might have suffered, as well as injuries to Taylor Behl... after all, it was "rough sex." By the time October 12, 2005 rolled around, it was surely common knowledge to law enforcement that through friends and former lovers Fawley had apparent ties to the local bondage and fetish scene. Ben even had an old Livejournal entry about wanting to "try something" with "T." He could say to police, then, that he'd tried it.

Ben Fawley, on October 12, must have realized that he'd failed at framing Erin Crabill for the disappearance and death of Taylor Behl.

So he confessed, after a fashion, but perhaps unwittingly stayed utterly true to form. Taylor Behl was made to be a partner in her own murder, in Fawley's words. An accomplice.

Ben couldn't frame Erin, so he tried what he thought was a new tack, though his October story was all about reversing things again.

His new script was about framing Taylor Behl.
