ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Crime Library)  — Two weeks ago, Kelly Gorham, a 30-year-old nurse from Maine, went missing without a trace. Four days before Kelly's disappearance, 52-year-old Mindy Schloss, a nurse from Anchorage, disappeared under similar mysterious circumstances. Now, investigators on opposite sides of the country are working tirelessly to solve two different, yet similarly baffling, cases.

Mindy has lived in Alaska for the last 20 years. She has a significant other who lives in Anchorage, but she has no family members living nearby. Since April 2006, she has been employed at Tanana Chiefs Conference in Fairbanks, where she works as a psychiatric nurse. Since her job is some 360 miles from her home, it is routine for Mindy to take a plane to work on Sundays and a return flight home on Fridays.

According to police, Mindy was last seen at her South Anchorage home on the 6800 block of Cutty Sark Circle on Friday, August 3, at 7:00 p.m. Coworkers reported her missing two days later, when she failed to show up at Stevens International Airport for her regularly scheduled flight to Fairbanks. When police arrived at Mindy's house, she was nowhere to be found, and her car, a 2000 red Acura Integra hatchback, license plate DVP231, was missing.

"She had several social engagements set for Saturday, and it was not like her not to show up or call," Mindy's friend, Gerri Yett, told Ktuu.com. "It is not in her character not to keep in contact. She was a really prompt person — very conscientious. Friendships and her professional life meant a lot to her. It's not like her."
