INDEPENDENCE,Calif. (Crime Library) —  There is no longer any question that the remains found last week in the high desert outside of Independence are those of missing mother Renee Fox.

But it could be weeks or even months before investigators find out precisely what killed the 25-year-old who apparently died while wandering in the scorching heat earlier this summer after he car broke down on a remote desert track.

Investigator Paul Bedell of the Inyo County Sheriff's Department confirmed Wednesday that the remains found Aug. 10th by an off roader traveling alone a remote fire track about five miles outside of the town of Independence are those Renee Fox. The identification was made Wednesday by the Inyo County Coroner.

There was no sign of trauma to the body and no obvious sign of a struggle at the site where her body was found — a secluded spot just a stone's throw from a gravel and dirt roadway and investigators are now awaiting the results of toxicological and other tests, being conducted at a forensic lab in Orange County, before determining a cause of death.

"We usually say that those could take six to eight weeks," Bedell told Crime Library, and until those results are in, the cause of Renee's death, and the circumstances of it will remain officially an open question.
